We have been fortunate to have visited some of the most incredible cities in the world. Shanghai is perhaps the most impressive city we have ever visited. It is immaculately trash-free, efficient, elegant and focused on the future. With 25 million residents, it is one of the largest cities on the planet, but it feels approachable, welcoming and affordable. More than 50% of the vehicles on the road are electric and this number is growing rapidly. It is filled with parks, green spaces and scores of trees, reducing heat on even the hottest days. It is a marvel.
My father was in Shanghai at the end of WWII. It was a big city even then, with over 3 million people. He would have been in awe of the city it has become. It was wonderful to be here tonight and to remember him.
